10 ways to combat your allergies naturally


  1. When the pollen count is high shut it out! Even on a nice day, keep your window and doors closed.
  2. Every time you walk outside and return home you are bringing in allergens on your skin, hair, and clothes. Wash your clothes, skin, and hair thoroughly. Don’t forget to leave your shoes at the door, they too will be covered in grass, dirt, or pollen. 
  3. Set yourself up for a good start by eating a healthy diet. There’s no doubt that plenty of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains is good for your whole body. 
  4. Stay hydrated. If you have postnasal drip from your allergies drink more water. The extra liquid will help thin out the mucus in your nasal passages and provide some relief. Warm beverages also have the added benefit of steam. 
  5. Steam can be very beneficial. Hold your head over a warm, but not too hot, bowl or water, and place a towel over your head. You may find the steam eases your stuffy nose and helps you breathe a little easier. 
  6. It goes without saying keep your house clean. This is the best way to ensure your home is free of indoor allergens. If you go natural and use everyday ingredients such as vinegar and baking soda you will also avoid the need for harsh chemicals, which can aggravate your symptoms. 
  7. Perhaps, it’s time to consider acupuncture. When very fine needles are inserted just under the skin at specific points on the body, they have been known to help reduce the symptoms of allergies. 
  8. Avoid areas where mold can collect, such as basements, garages, crawl spaces, barns, and even compost heaps. 
  9. Remove laundry from the washing machine and tumble or air dry immediately. Don’t leave wet clothes in the washer where mold can grow quickly. 
  10. Wash towels daily, bathmats every two-to-three days, and shower curtains regularly. Be sure to also wipe down surfaces with a cleaner that kills mold.
